It was a quiet end to a truncated week, marked by some choppiness and selling pressure at the higher levels. The Nifty stayed range-bound through the day. Sensex shut shop at 17134, up 7 points and Nifty at 5083, down 0.5 points from the previous close. CNX Midcap index was down 0.2% and BSE Smallcap index was down 0.04%. The market breadth was negative with advances at 454 against declines of 815 on the NSE. Top Nifty gainers included Bharti Airtel, Ambuja Cements andRCom while losers included Grasim, HDFC and Maruti Suzuk

Weekly Summary
After an eventful week, which saw the Sensex cross the 17000 mark for the first time since May 23, 2008, the market closed on a flat note. This week's performance was good and the numbers are: Sensex and Nifty up 2.5% each. CNX Midcap index was up 1.5%, BSE Smallcap index up 2.1% over the week. BSE Bankexindex up 5%, BSE Oil & Gas index up 1.5%, BSE Metalindex up 1.7%, BSE IT index up 4.5% and BSE Auto index up 1%.
